Are We Living In A Fair Society?
What is a fair society?
Are we living in a just and equal society? These are the concern of a good
citizens in a society. Society is defined as a group of individuals which
characterized by common interests and may have distinctive culture and
institutions. We all make up a society, in general we are the society. What
society is reflects to what we are. The problem is we are naturally unequal,
different heights, different personality traits and varying likes and dislikes.
But how can we build a fair society?
A fair society acknowledges that
fairness is universal. Justice must be served equally and there is gender
equality. My definition of a fair society is equality. But my definition of a
fair society is miles away from our present society.
Philippine is a democratic country, in which the rule of law protects the
rights of citizens and limit the power of government where all citizens are
equal under the law. According to Aristotle, the power comes from below and is
excercised on behalf of all. But I think the idea of democracy is slowly fading
now, because sometimes people with high positions and serves in the office are those
who break it too. But can we build a strong and equal society if the one who
serves abuses his power?
Based on the issues
facing our country today, including murder, drugs, slow justice system and
widespread corruption. I am sure that our government doesn't know the meaning
of a just and fair society. Even when attaining justice, people with names and
money always win while ordinary people go straight behind bars. It is because
government officials just want money of the people. Their only goal is to be on
top and to be the richest of all. But we can do something. We are a democracy
country. We hold in our hands what our society should be. We, as the hope of
humanity can change the old society. It is not yet over. We can still do
something about it.
